AIDS Vs Humans - Timothy Brown won the battle

  

Timothy Brown is indeed a medical miracle and a blessed fellow to have defeated the deadly HIV virus.This is said to be a miracle as he was not treated for HIV but for a blood cancer that had infected his bone marrow(in geek terms acute myeloid leukaemia) and as a result his doctor had to do a bone marrow transplant of stem cells to repopulate his white blood cells,otherwise known as the T cells that protects our body.

 

The HIV virus is believed to be practically indestructible because of its nature to bond with the genes and specially with these T cells making an infected human vulnerable to all deceases.The twist in Timothy's story was his doctor had suggested for a blood donor with a natural mutation to the CCR5 gene which codes a layer of protein on the surface of T-cells which was confered to be resistant to this infection after this news.Well,finally Timothy was cured of his cancer and also found to be HIV negative.

Doctors say that this can be a good news for Timothy but can't be a way to cure millions of infected people around the world, firstly because a bone marrow transplant is very expensive and carries a high risk,secondly the pattern Timothy had been treated and the medicines he took for years may play a role which can't be defined but this incident may be a medical miracle or a happy accident or the god's touch.Can't say for sure but the cure for this deadly virus would be found in the near future.
